2026 Lakers Softball Season Preview
Mount Pleasant, MI - The Mid Michigan College softball program enters the 2026 season with confidence, experience, and high expectations as head coach Greg Welch and the Lakers prepare to compete at a high level.
The standard for the program is clear: win a regional championship and earn a trip to the NJCAA World Series. That same level of excellence extends beyond the field, with the Lakers also aiming to maintain a 3.0 team GPA throughout the season.
A strong sense of unity has already taken shape within the roster. With a mix of returning players and newcomers, the team has quickly developed chemistry and cohesion heading into the year.
Leadership remains a key strength for the Lakers, with Gabi Johnston, Madeline McDonald, and Tessa Cameron setting the tone through their consistency and example-driven approach.
On the field, Mid Michigan will look to play an aggressive style, applying pressure on opponents both at the plate and on the base paths. That approach reflects the team's identity and mindset heading into the season.
The Lakers have also shown the ability to manage the demands of being student-athletes, balancing softball, academics, and daily life effectively as they prepare for a challenging schedule.
In a competitive conference race, Mid Michigan expects to be firmly in contention for a championship. Success for the Lakers will ultimately be defined by postseason performance, with a regional title serving as the primary benchmark.
Looking ahead, the foundation of the program continues to strengthen. With recruiting for the 2026 class already complete, the focus remains on developing the current roster and building long-term success.
With strong leadership, growing chemistry, and a clear vision in place, the Lakers are positioned to make a strong push toward a championship-caliber season in 2026.
