Women's Basketball Goes 2-0 Opening Weekend

Women's basketball received an invite to participate in the Wisconsin Dells to kick off their season at Just A Game Fieldhouse.

The season began with the Black Hawk College Braves. The Braves held a two point advantage after the first quarter. After an even second quarter, Black Hawk led the Lakers 49-47. The Lakers couldn't make up ground in the third quarter, entering the final quarter of play trailing the Braves 68-66. Finally, the Lakers won the fourth quarter bya  margin of 7, propelling them to an opening night victory 89-84. Chloe Watson led the team in scoring with 26 points. Watson did a little bit of everything in the game, adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals to her statline. Rachel Resio and Paige Ebels each added 12 points for the Lakers. They also added 5 and 4 assists respectively. Alexus Dunn rounded out the double digit scoring for the Lakers with 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the field.

Game two, the Lakers took on the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats. The Lakers pounced on the Bobcats in the first quarter, and never looked back. The Lakers would take a 43-17 lead into the half. Though Bryant & Stratton played a tighter second half, it wouldn't be enough and the Lakers would cruise to a 92-56 win. The victory pulled their record to 2-0 on the weekend. It was a balanced attack on offense, where they'd see four double digit scorers, and everyone who entered the game for the Lakers entered the score column. Watson led the team in scoring with 14 points. Leah Helsel shot 5-9 from the field, good for 13 points. Alexus Dunn added 12 points. Delaney Seaman added 11 points and 3 assists. Though they didn't score double digits, both Addysen Gray and Makayla Watkins flirted with a double-double in their own right. Gray notched 9 points and 5 rebounds, while Watkins contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds.

The Lakers currently sit at #11 in the country and sport a 2-0 record. They'll return to their home floor for the first time this season when they play host to the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks on Tuesday, November 5th at 5:30 PM.
