Mid Michigan Lakers Women Roll Past Alpena, Close in on Fourth Straight Title

Mt Pleasant - Ranked 12th in the nation and riding a 15-game winning streak, the Mid Michigan College Lakers women's basketball team continues to assert itself as one of the premier programs in the country. Improving to 24-3 overall and a perfect 13-0 in conference play, the Lakers overwhelmed the Alpena Lumberjacks 134-35 in a dominant performance from start to finish.

With the victory, Mid Michigan has secured at least a share of the MCCAA North Division title for the fourth consecutive season. After sharing the championship with Bay College in 2024 and 2025, the Lakers now have an opportunity to claim the title outright with a home win Tuesday against the Norse.

Against Alpena, Mid Michigan left no doubt.

The Lakers' defensive pressure set the tone immediately, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy transition points. Their relentless full-court pressure and aggressive hands disrupted Alpena's offensive rhythm all night long. Every player who stepped on the floor found the scoring column, and seven Lakers finished in double figures — a testament to the team's depth and unselfish play.

Alexus Dunn led the charge with 22 points, knocking down 4-of-8 shots from beyond the arc while adding five steals on the defensive end. Delaney Seaman orchestrated the offense beautifully, finishing with 19 points and eight assists. Gracie Mellinger and Madison Smith each contributed 14 points, with Smith also picking up seven steals.

Grace Chinavare filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, six assists, and four steals, while McKenna Pratt added 11 points on an efficient 5-of-9 shooting performance. Abigail Lautzenheiser chipped in eight points to go along with five assists, seven rebounds, and four steals, impacting the game in every phase.

The Lakers' balanced scoring and defensive intensity created a complete team performance, one that reflects a program peaking at the right time.

Now, with a 24-3 record and momentum firmly on their side, Mid Michigan turns its attention to Tuesday's showdown. A win at home would give the Lakers sole possession of the MCCAA North Division crown — and further cement their standing among the nation's elite.
