Men's Basketball:

 

Last Time Out: James Wright scored 25 points while also pulling down 12 rebounds to lead the Mid-Michigan College men's basketball team to an 82-81 victory over Bryant and Stratton College on Tuesday (Nov. 26) night. 

 

Wright's three-pointer with 2.9 seconds remaining lifted the Lakers to victory over the Bobcats and gave Mid their fifth win of the year. The Lakers are now 5-3 overall entering this week's slate of games. 

 

SCOUTING JACKSON: The Jets enter Wednesday night's matchup with a 1-6 overall record. Their lone victory this season came against Siena Heights University on Nov. 9, when they defeated the Saints 80-60. Jackson dropped their most recent contest against the Albion College JV team on Tuesday, falling 85-84. JCC is currently averaging 81.7 points per game as a team, and are led in scoring by Savonn Campbell at 17.1 points per game. Campbell also leads the Jets in rebounding at 10.9 per game. Alongside Campbell, Kamerin Carter averages 14.9 points per game and Cooper Johnston posts 14 points per contest. Jackson is led by head coach Chris Johnston. 

 

SCOUTING MACOMB: The Monarchs enter the week with a 7-0 record. Macomb is currently ranked second in the NJCAA D2 Men's Basketball poll, and most recently competed in the CCM Turkey Hoop Shoot Tournament on Nov. 23-24. Macomb earned a 77-72 victory over No. 25 Montgomery College to open the tournament, before finishing things off the next day with an 89-88 overtime victory over County College of Morris to remain perfect on the season. As a team the Monarchs average 91.7 points per game, while Josh Hines leads the team in scoring with 22.1 points per contest. DaMaryon Fishburn leads the Monarchs with 9.7 rebounds per game while averaging 14.6 points per game. The Monarchs are led by head coach Christopher Burns in his second season with the program. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Entering the week, Wright leads the Lakers with 20.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. De'Antre Griffin averages 17.1 points per contest, while Amonti Greene is also in double figures at 11.4 points per contest. Greene also leads the team in assists per game with 3.4. 

 

For his performance in last week's game, Wright was named MCCAA Northern Conference Player of the Week. 



Women's Basketball:

 

Last Time Out: Alexus Dunn scored 19 points off the bench as the Mid-Michigan College women's basketball rolled past Oakland Community College 117-66 on Thursday (Nov. 21). Overall six Lakers finished in double figures including Chloe Watson, who finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Paige Ebels, Makayla Watkins, and Jiaryatou Cisse each recorded 12 points, while Grace Chinavre added 11. 

 

Mid enters this week with a 6-2 overall record and No. 13 ranking in the NJCAA D2 Women's Basketball poll. The Lakers last played on Monday (Nov. 25) in an exhibition contest against the Alma College JV team. 

 

SCOUTING JACKSON: JCC enters the week undefeated and ranked 20th in the country with a 7-0 overall record. The Jets most recently earned a 89-75 victory over Muskegon Community College on Tuesday (Nov. 26). As a team they average 79.4 points per game and are led in scoring individually by Kaylona Butler with 22.3 points per game. Michelle McGee is another player to watch as she averages 15.3 points per contest and 4.7 assists per game. Leading the Jets in rebounding is Zoandria Bamm with 9.0 boards per game. Jackson is led by head coach Heather Brown. 

 

SCOUTING MACOMB: Macomb enters the week 3-3 overall after earning an 89-63 victory over Madonna University JV on Tuesday (Nov. 26). The Monarchs have also earned wins over Delta College and Community Christian College. Asiyah Jihad leads the team in scoring with 15 points per game, while the Monarchs as a team score 63.0 points per contest. Jihad is also the leading rebounder for Macomb with 7.8 per game. The Monarchs are led by first year head coach Kirk Carolan. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Watson currently leads the Lakers in scoring with 14.8 points per game, while Rachel Resio isn't far behind with 13.9 points per game. Watson is also averaging 2.8 assists per game and 5.3 rebounds per contest. Overall, Ebels leads the Lakers with 3.5 assists per game and Cisse leads Mid in rebounding with 6.4 boards per game. As a team, the Lakers rank second in the MCCAA with 89.6 points per contest, while leading the league in field goal percentage at 45.2 percent.
