Laker Baseball Drops 3 to Grand Rapids in Conference Opening Series Weekend

Baseball hosted Grand Rapids Community College as they kicked off their conference schedule. 

The Lakers knocked off GRCC in the first game of the series in a pitcher's duel 3-2. Trevor Crawford threw all seven innings for the Lakers, allowing just 2 runs and 2 hits in the contest. Andrew Charters drove in two of the three runs while batting 2-3 with a double. Keegan Merenuk drove in the other run for the Lakers and doubled. Alex Duley also had a multi-hit game. 

Game two was taken by Grand Rapids. The Raiders padded their lead to 13-1 in the top of the fifth inning. The Lakers remained resilient in the loss, clawing back with a 4-run fifth inning and a 2-run sixth inning to make it a respectable 13-7 loss. Charters was back at it again with a strong performance, going 3-4 in the game with a double, a homerun, while gathering 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs himself. Avain Rivera hit a solo homerun in the game. Keegan Merenuk doubled in the game. Donovan Borg and Brady Alverson each drove in a run. 

Game three was down to the wire, tied 1-1 going into the final inning of play. The Raiders put up two runs in the top half of the seventh inning, the Lakers answered with one of their own but it was not enough. The Raiders took game three with a final score of 3-2. Daniel Howell hit a solo homerun in the game. Brady Alverson collected the other run driven in for the Lakers with a 1-2 game at the plate. Merenuk and Rivera each had a hit in the game as well.

Game four was a lopsided 17-3 win for Grand Rapids. Andrew Charters continued his hot series with a 2-4 game at the plate, including a solo homerun. Brady Alverson and Alex Duley each drove in a run for the Lakers. 

The Lakers got four of the five scheduled games in, and will look to play the fifth game later in the season to complete the series. Currently, they will shift their focus to the next conference series when they'll play host to Bay College on 4/7 and 4/8.
