Baseball Sweeps Bay College Series 5-0
Baseball came in on the heels of dropping 3 of 4 to Grand Rapids, looking to right the ship as they played host to the Bay College Norse.
Game one, Trevor Crawford was the starter, and he went all 7 innings allowing just 5 hits while striking out 8 batters in a 4-2 win. The only two runs to cross the plate were unearned runs. Brady Alverson drove in 2 of the 4 Laker runs in the game with a double. Matt Barger had a two hit game, driving in two runs and tripling.
Game two, Dean Sommer started, throwing a gem in a 5-inning 10-0 mercy over the Norse. Sommer threw five shut out innings allowing just one hit while striking out 4. The Lakers had a great game at the plate, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits. Andrew Charters went 2-3 with a double and a pair of runs driven in. Daniel Howell also had a two hit game with a double. Tyler Duncan drove in two runs with a double.
Game three, Jarrett Inscho threw all 7 innings in another dominant pitching performance for the Lakers. Inscho allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 11 en route to a 9-0 shutout win. Alverson went 2-2 at the plate with 3 runs driven in. Charters went 2-3 with a double and a run driven in. Isiah Stoy and Matt Barger each doubled, Barger also had an RBI. Avain Rivera hit a solo homerun. Beau Falkenhagen drove in a pair of runs.
Game four, was another lopsided win for the Lakers. Owen Trimble threw all 5 innings in the 13-3 mercy. Charters went 3-4 at the plate. Alverson went 2-4 with a pair of RBI and 2 runs scored. Avain Rivera went 3-4 with a double and 3 runs driven in. Donovan Borg also went 3-4 at the plate with a double, driving in 2 runs. Beau Falkenhagen went 3-4 at the plate with a pair of double and 3 runs driven in. Brendan Willadsen went 2-4 at the plate with three RBI.
The bats stayed hot in the series finale, as the Lakers routed the Norse 15-4 to complete the 5 game series sweep. Tyler Duncan and Daniel Howell both hit homeruns in the game as a part of their multi-hit games. Jesse Flores went 2-3 in the game with a pair of RBI. Falkenhagen also turned in a multi-hit game. Stoy, Willadsen, and Brendan Mendoza each had an extra base hit in the game.
The Lakers turn their attention to Grand Rapids Community College for a make up game of the final game of previously scheduled 5 game series. The game will be at Shepherd High School on Tuesday, 4/11.
