Laker Baseball Wins Final Home Series 3-2 over Muskegon Jayhawks
On the heels of losing their most recent single game makeup with Grand Rapids CC, the Lakers were looking to get back in the win column. They played host to the Muskegon Jayhawks, who came into the series in second place in the MCCAA Northern Conference, one spot ahead of the Lakers.
Game one, Trevor Crawford was dealing through five innings. The Jayhawks got to Crawford a bit in the 6th and 7th innings for 4 runs over the final two innings. Tim Polidor came in to slam the door shut on a 9-6 Lakers win to open the series. Crawford went 6.2 innings allowing 4 earned runs to cross the plate. Polidor struck out the lone batter he faced to close out the game. On the offensive side of things, Brendan Willadsen had a two hit game, driving in a run. Tyler Duncan and Isiah Stoy each had one hit and 2 RBI. Brady Alverson had a double and 3 RBI. Avain Rivera also had a hit and drove in a run.
Game two the offense stayed hot, as the Lakers amassed 11 hits, resulting in plating 11 runs in an 11-4 win. Isiah Stoy had the biggest game of all, going 3-4 at the plate including a grand slam to plate 4 runs. Matt Barger also turned in a 2 hit and 2 RBI performance from the lead off spot. Brady Alverson had 2 hits and scored 2 runs. Donovan Borg and Daniel Howell each hit a double. Dean Sommer went 6.0 innings allowing just one hit and one earned run to cross the plate while striking out 5 along the way.
Game three, the Jayhawks would not be denied, having a hit parade of their own, resulting in an 11-2 loss for the Lakers. Muskegon accumulated 10 hits and 11 runs in the game. The lone offense from the Lakers came from Borg and Rivera. The two combined for 4 of the 6 hits recorded, including a solo homerun for each in the bottom of the seventh inning to avoid the shutout. Tyler Duncan and Matt Barger had the other two Laker hits.
Game four, the Lakers got the bounce back they were looking for in a 10-0 win. Alex Duley threw all five innings in the mercy-rule victory. Duley allowed just 2 hits. Avain Rivera hit his second homerun of the series, driving in three runs. Beau Falkenhagen had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Alverson, Borg, Willadsen, and Brody Hovey each had a hit and a run driven in.
Game five ended in a 7-2 Jayhawks win to finish the series 3-2 in favor of the home Lakers. Brendan Martin threw 6.0 innings allowing 4 earned runs. Barger was the only one with a multi-hit game. Brendan Mendoza had a 2-run double, pushing across the only two runs for the Lakers. Willadsen had a double, Falkenhagen and Stoy had the other two hits.
This pushes their record to 16-11 on the season. Laker baseball will look to get back on track when they travel to Davenport University to take on the Panthers' JV team on Tuesday, 4/18 in a single 9-inning game.
