MBB Preview: Montcalm and NCMC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The No. 14 Mid Michigan College men's basketball squad will open the second half of conference play this week. The Lakers (18-3, 7-0 MCCAA North) travel to Montcalm for a 7:30 PM game on Wednesday (Feb. 5), before closing the week at Morey Courts against North Central Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 3:00 PM.

SCOUTING MONTCALM: The Centurions sit at 10-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Montcalm earned a 73-63 victory over NCMC last Saturday, led by Taylen Carver's 29 points. Dorian Allen added eight assists, while Dawson Dunn had 9 points and five rebounds. Against Mid on January 15th, Josiah DeMeester led the Centurions with 13 points in the 100-58 loss. 

SCOUTING NCMC: The Timberwolves are 0-21 overall and 0-7 in league play. Thomas Conzelmann led NCMC in the loss against Montcalm, scoring 16 points. Quentin Hillaker also had a strong game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Timberwolves first meeting against the Lakers resulted in a 88-68 defeat, with Jalen Williams leading NCMC with 24 points and seven assists. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: James Wright led the Lakers against NCMC with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while De'Antre Griffin added 22 points. Against Montcalm, Wright had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Griffin posted 18 points, and Amonti Greene had 14 points and three steals. Wright is currently averaging a double-double with 21.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Mid as a team averages 97.1 points per contest. The Lakers also had a commitment this week, as Jayden Hardiman will play for Madonna University beginning next year following his graduation from Mid.  

UP NEXT: Following this week, Mid will travel to Delta on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 7:30 PM. They'll then return home to host Kirtland at 3:00 PM Saturday (Feb. 15) at Mt. Pleasant High School
