Mid Michigan Lakers Clinch Back-to-Back Northern Division Titles
Mt Pleasant - Ranked 10th in the country and riding a wave of momentum, Mid Michigan continued its dominant run Wednesday night with a 101-77 victory over Muskegon Community College, securing its second straight MCCAA Northern Division championship.
The Lakers, now 22-4 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference play, extended their winning streak to 16 games. Mid Michigan has not tasted defeat since a 93-80 setback on December 6th, and since that night, the Lakers have played with a consistency and edge that has separated them from the rest of the league.
After capturing the Northern Division crown last season with a 13-1 conference record, Mid Michigan left no doubt this year, remaining unbeaten in league play and locking up the title with two games to go.
The Lakers set the tone early, building a 44-31 advantage at halftime behind balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure. Their ability to push the pace and turn stops into transition opportunities created separation before the break.
Amonti Green, Vynce Overshown, and Jaden Clark each poured in 18 points to lead the offensive charge. Green filled up the stat sheet, adding nine assists and seven rebounds in a complete floor game. Overshown dominated the glass with nine rebounds of his own, controlling possessions on both ends.
Christian Zielinski contributed 15 points, while Zach Parks provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and five steals, igniting the Lakers with his energy and defensive intensity.
With depth, balance, and confidence at an all-time high, Mid Michigan continues to prove why it is ranked among the nation's best. The Lakers now turn their focus toward Alpena Community College on Sunday afternoon before taking on rival Bay College on Tuesday. The Lakers will celebrate Sophomore Night before the game.
