Bio

Katie Phillips comes to Mid Michigan College from Norton Shores, Michigan (Muskegon County), bringing with her a lifelong passion for athletics and a deep family connection to the game of basketball. Katie began playing sports at just four years old and grew up in a busy, active household with her parents, Mike and Michelle Phillips, and two sisters. Throughout her childhood and high school years, she competed in a wide range of sports—including basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, track and field, cross country, and dance—but basketball always stood out as her true passion.

Basketball has long been a family affair for Katie. Her father, Mike, is the head coach of the Mona Shores girls varsity basketball team, and both of her sisters have played under him. One of Katie’s most meaningful experiences came during her sophomore year of high school, when she earned a varsity starting role alongside her older sister. That dream continued into her senior year, when her younger sister was called up to play varsity games—allowing Katie to share the court with both sisters while her dad coached from the sideline. Those moments and the success they shared together helped shape Katie as both a player and a person.

A 2025 graduate of Mona Shores High School, Katie excelled academically and athletically, posting a 3.885 GPA and earning six varsity letters. She was a three-year varsity basketball player at point guard and shooting guard and a three-year varsity soccer attacker. Her basketball accolades include serving as team captain for two years, earning All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore, All-Conference honors as a junior and senior, MLive Dream Team Honorable Mention and Second Team recognition, BCAM’s Best Honorable Mention, Academic All-State honors, three Defensive Player of the Year awards, two Offensive Player of the Year awards, and two MVP honors. In soccer, Katie was named Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a senior.

Katie learned about Mid Michigan College through her sister, Ali Phillips, who played basketball at Mid during the 2023–24 season. The opportunity to continue playing competitive basketball while pursuing her academic goals in radiography solidified her decision to become a Laker. She is excited to join a successful women’s basketball program and continue developing her game at a high level.

At Mid, Katie’s goals include competing for championships, continuing the program’s tradition of success, and improving her overall skill set. Academically, she plans to earn her associate degree in radiography while strengthening her time management and career planning skills. Katie looks forward to growing as a student-athlete, building relationships with her teammates, and embracing the competitive, winning culture at Mid Michigan College.
